Bus Support Structures

Steel supports that hold rigid or flexible bus conductors at the elevations and spacing defined for the substation.

What It Is

Holding the Bus in Place

Bus support structures carry the conductor network that distributes power through a substation. Rigid bus uses tube or pipe supported on post insulators and may require provision for thermal movement. Flexible bus uses stranded conductor between strain points and is supported by the specified frame and insulator arrangement. Both configurations follow project loads, clearances, phase spacing, and hardware schedules.

SteelCon fabricates pedestal, single-column, A-frame, H-frame, or other drawing-defined bus supports. Insulator mounting plates, hole patterns, expansion-fitting interfaces, grounding attachments, base plates, and anchorage are coordinated to approved drawings, then identified and packaged by support tag.

Typical Components

  • Rigid-bus and flexible-bus support steel
  • Post-insulator pedestals and mounting plates
  • Single-column, A-frame, and H-frame arrangements
  • Expansion-fitting and strain-point interfaces
  • Grounding provisions, base plates, and anchorage
