Static Mast Structures
Freestanding poles used with or without overhead shield wires as part of a substation lightning-shielding layout.
Protection Above the Yard
Static masts, also called static poles, are positioned around or within a substation as part of the engineer’s lightning-protection scheme. They may stand alone or carry overhead shield wires between masts or to dead-end structures. Their quantity, height, and location depend on the yard layout, equipment elevations, and required shielding geometry.
SteelCon fabricates tapered or other specified mast shafts, bolted splices, peaks and wire attachments where required, grounding provisions, base plates, and anchorage from approved drawings. Sections can be match-marked and bundled with their connection material for delivery; shielding design and grounding-system performance remain project-engineering responsibilities.
Typical Components
- Tapered or specified mast shafts and splices
- Optional shield-wire peaks and attachment plates
- Grounding lugs and bonding provisions
- Base plates, anchor bolts, and templates
