H-Frame Dead-End Structures

Compact two-column dead-end assemblies for conductor termination at substation line entrances and exits.

What It Is

Termination Built to Hold

An H-frame dead end uses two columns and one or more conductor beams to terminate phases in a comparatively narrow footprint. It is commonly used for moderate-tension or slack-span connections and compact yard layouts. Column spacing, beam elevation, attachment points, bracing, and foundation reactions follow the project’s electrical clearances and structural loads.

Unlike the broader dead-end category, this page focuses on the H-frame configuration. SteelCon fabricates matched columns, beams, bracing, shield-wire peaks where specified, connection assemblies, and anchorage from approved drawings, then match-marks and packages the members so each frame can be identified during erection.

Typical Components

  • Paired H-frame columns and conductor beams
  • Phase and slack-span attachment plates
  • Diagonal and horizontal bracing
  • Optional shield-wire peaks and grounding provisions
  • Base plates, anchor bolts, templates, and loose hardware
